Would A Bad Guy Turn a World Without Oil Game Junkie?
March 31st, 2007 by wwo-admin
Jane McGonigal, the game designer mastermind behind Would Without Oil game, published yesterday in her blog an essay dedicated to “Dear 30 year old thug who jacked my suitcase on the train last night”.
If you ever got robbered, you can understand Jane’s feelings. If not - you cannot undertand feelings of somebody who was robbered.
Myself, I happily escaped opportunity of been robbered. Yet I had a chance to pass thru other emotional turmoils - e.g. like being betrayed by very close relatives, like getting BADLY dissappointed in “justice for all” and so on. So I can extrapolate what I felt when to understand Jane’s feelings.
And Jane’s view of her personal situation is quite unusual - she says: “The very strange thing about having my favorite things stolen last night is that I feel ARGs have taught me to see what happened in a different way” and ” I am framing this experience as an opportunity to prevent other people from having suffered” - I do recommend you to check it out.
And hey, Jane didnt find her stack of World Without Oil postcards among the things she recovered off a trash can and the sidewalk - so there is a chance The Bad Guy would turn a World Without Oil game junkie and one day will come to meet Jane and tell her how that pack of cards changed his life forever.Â
